Cool circumgalactic gas in galaxy clusters: connecting the DESI legacy imaging survey and SDSS DR16 Mg <scp>ii</scp> absorbers

چکیده
ABSTRACT We investigate the cool gas absorption in galaxy clusters by cross-correlating Mg ii absorbers detected quasar spectra from data release 16 of Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) with identified Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) survey. find significant covering fractions ($1\!-\!5\, \mathrm{per\,cent}$ within r500, depending on chosen redshift interval), ∼4–5 times higher than around random sightlines. While fraction decreases increasing mass central galaxy, total r500 is none less ∼10 for SDSS luminous red galaxies. The versus impact parameter well described a power law inner regions and an exponential function at larger distances. characteristic scale transition between these two regimes smaller large equivalent width absorbers. Cross-correlating photo−$z$ selected cluster member galaxies DESI reveals statistically connection. median projected distance nearest ∼200 kpc, compared to ∼500 kpc mocks same density profiles. do not correlation strength star formation rate closest neighbour. This suggests that clusters, as traced absorption, is: (i) associated satellite galaxies, (ii) dominated cold clouds intracluster medium, rather interstellar medium (iii) may originate part stripped satellites past.

RASS - SDSS Galaxy Clusters Survey . III . Scaling relations of galaxy clusters
We use the RASS-SDSS galaxy cluster sample to compare the quality of optical and X-ray luminosities as predictors of other cluster properties such as their masses, temperatures, and velocity dispersions. We use the SDSS spectroscopic data to estimate the velocity dispersions and the virial masses of a subsample of 69 clusters within r500 and r200. The ASCA temperature of the intracluster medium...
متن کاملSearching for rotating galaxy clusters in SDSS and 2 dFGRS
We present a result of searching for galaxy clusters that show an indication of global rotation using a spectroscopic sample of galaxies in SDSS and 2dFGRS. We have determined the member galaxies of 899 Abell clusters covered in SDSS and 2dFGRS using the redshift and the positional data of galaxies, and have estimated the ratio of the cluster rotation amplitude to the cluster velocity dispersio...
متن کاملGalaxy Clusters Identified from the Sdss Dr6 and Their Properties
Clusters of galaxies in most previous catalogs have redshifts z ≤ 0.3. Using the photometric redshifts of galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 6 (SDSS DR6), we identify 39,716 clusters in the redshift range 0.05 < z < 0.6 with more than eight luminous (Mr ≤ −21) member galaxies. Cluster redshifts are estimated accurately with an uncertainty less than 0.022. The contamination ...
متن کاملCool Gas in Clusters of Galaxies
Early X-ray observations suggested that the intracluster medium cools and condenses at the centers of clusters, leading to a cooling flow of plasma in the cluster core. The increased incidence of emission-line nebulosity, excess blue light, AGN activity, and molecular gas in the cores of clusters with short central cooling times seemed to support this idea. However, high-resolution spectroscopi...
متن کاملMetal Abundances in the Cool-Cores of Galaxy Clusters
We use XMM-Newton data to carry out a detailed study of the Si, Fe and Ni abundances in the cool cores of a representative sample of 26 local clusters. We have performed a careful evaluation of the systematic uncertainties related to the instruments, the plasma codes and the spectral modeling finding that the major source of uncertainty is in the plasma codes. Our Si, Fe, Ni, Si/Fe and Ni/Fe di...
